I am doing a revamp of the website, I have designed it myself but it's still a bit clumbsy for me to work on it. I hope people like the new look.
I am finally going to apply for the Oddities and Curiosities Expo (Due in Minneapolis May 23-24) -I know, many of you have been asking me to do it and I have listened.
I have been collecting specifically for the show, expanding on my ever growing collection of relegous artififacts and ethnographic wood carvings. But I am also digging deep into my pesonal stash. I am taking the oppertunity to drastically cut down on my collections -so this is one I know you won't want to miss.
I have a large selection of fabulous handmade textiles and wall hangings. I am bringing my early 20th century African Mask collection and down sizing my antique photograph collection (last count was 5,000 pieces), I will mostly be selling tintypes and Albumen prints but I am digging into the stereoviews as well, and lets face it -do I really need 28 stereopticon viewers? Most of them have been waiting for minor repairs like a missing screw. I don't know maybe I have 50 of them?
I am going to make some simple jewelry again, I went crazy about 10 years ago buying black beads, so I'm thinking of simple bead-soup neclaces that should fly off the shelves. But I have a couple of cleaver neclace ideas in the works to produce as kits (all materials included) -there's sure to be a lot of crafty people there who know how to weild a jeweler's plyers or have yet to find out how easy closing a jump ring can be.
I know I haven't posted much in the way of antique ephemera in the past couple of years -it just takes so much time to photograph and describe each lovely piece -But I think a show is the perfect way to allow people to pick thru and find a treasure. Which reminds me I have a stack of about 100+ tiny frames that need art, mats and hangers and I am planning to tackle in the next month (or two). So busy, but I love it!
And long overdue is a reduction to my bead collection. It fills one of those 6 foot tall x 48" wide industrial shelving units. If you haven't looked at it in over 10 years -isn't it time to de-stash? Yes, and I will be making Flashy Stash bags again of jewelry making bits and bobs and broken rhinestone pieces that people can't seem to get enough of.
Talking about gobbling up! I am sorry if you missed out on the Halloween kit, if you remember my last post, it was a crescent shaped grape vine wreath, we covered in black (ethically sourced) duck feathers and decorated with a wry little crow -simple yet so cool and elegant. I posted a photo of the prototype and actually sold out before I was able to list it! My kits always sell out, but never before I put them on offer. I will be assembling more of them soon and will hope to have some for the Oddities show as well.
I appreciate everyone of my clients and don't be afraid to drop me a message. Bobby@flashytrash.shop
